A Vice Admiral [C-3] is a Naval rank equivalent to an Army Lieutenant General in seniority. A Vice Admiral is typically senior to a Rear Admiral and junior to an Admiral. Vice Admirals are addressed by rank and name, though normally just as 'Admiral' and thereafter by subordinates as "Sir" or "Ma'am". The rank is usually abbreviated to "VADM".
