Character Articles
Remember your character page is all about your character's biography, history and past service. You should only place information here that would be publicly accessible to characters in the game universe. The content of the article should be a proper written biography, and some things you might include could be: Appearance, special skills, personality and/or beliefs, affiliations, etc.
At the minimum, you should have a brief summary of your character. If your article is ever displayed in the Featured article list, the same brief summary will be used. So it should include the name, race, a few things about the character and their service. Under that summary, write the proper headings (ex. "Character History), using usually only two equals ("=") as the biggest heading. You may want to look at other character articles to get ides on how to create your own.
General Articles
- For any other article, use common sense with the article construction. Avoid using excessive amounts of links. Typically, linking the first instance of a given word is acceptable. For instance, you might link the first time you use Imperial Starfleet, but then it is unnecessary to link it each subsequent time you use term.
Images
- Image uploading is allowed, but you should use images sparingly and only when appropriate. There is an option to reduce the image dimensions in the Wiki, along with thumbnails.
- When using images, it is recommended to take examples from articles that contain images. These articles often use tables and/or other means to get their image to be placed properly within the paragraph.
- Do not use large images in your article. You should reduce the image dimensions before you upload it to the server.
Editing
- A wiki is a collaborative effort, and this means that anyone can edit any article they wish. Be reasonable, though, and edit articles only when you have good content in mind.
- Remember when you are done editing a certain page, use the Summary box to write a small line, briefly explaining what was changed. If you decide to leave a note, it's typically considered good etiquette to sign your signature by pressing on the signature button or just 4 times tildes ("~")
- It is generally frowned upon to edit another player's character pages without their permission. If you found something troubling, leave them a message in the Talk page. Even if it's a typo, it could be on purpose.
- Avoid deleting articles and reverting unless actually needed. If you made a mistake, just change it back with another revision.
Proper use of resources
- In order to write a good article, you need to use the built in resources available to you through the wiki. Always remember to use Bold and Italics where needed, have your article display some images where appropriate, etc. You can find more information about this on the FAQs Page.
General Behavior
- The STDW Wiki is a civilised community, always treat others as you would want them to treat you.
- Don't look down on someone who may not know how to properly use the wiki. Everyone started off little and grew to learn the basics.
- Please avoid conflicts in Talk pages, try to be mature and calm. If you have a disagreement with someone, take it to IM or PM.
- When you see a good article, take some time to go to the Talk page of that article and write something nice to the author for their nice work. Everyone likes to receive compliments.
