The Emperor is dead! Long live the Empress!
KYOTO, EARTH (GNN) -- In a shocking turn of events, Emperor Sato finally returned to Earth unannounced earlier tonight, and was killed by renegade soldiers under the command of Fleet Admiral Curtis Sheffield. Sheffield himself was also killed by ground forces loyal to the Emperor. With the Emperor confirmed dead, Hoshi Sato II is now the true legitimate ruler of the Terran Empire. Emperor Tadashi Sato's funeral service will be held tomorrow, and Empress Hoshi Sato II's official coronation ceremony will be held the following day. The brief but costly civil war has come to an end, and the Terran Empire is once again at peace. Citizens across the Terran Empire now mourn the death of their Emperor.

Terran Civil War Reaches Turning Point
MARS COLONY ONE, SOL SECTOR (GNN) -- For over a month, military forces across the Terran Empire have been locked in battle over the Imperial Throne. Most of the fighting has been happening in space, with minimal civilian casualties on the Terran colonies themselves. In a decisive battle last night, Admiral Sheffield's Starfleet forces wiped out Hoshi Sato II's Sol Defense Fleet, culminating in the destruction of McKinley Station in orbit of Earth.
Sheffield has ordered Hoshi II to step down from the throne, a demand with which Hoshi has yet to comply. Sheffield's claim that Hoshi II is not the rightful ruler of the Terran Empire is based on the fact that Emperor Sato is reported to be still alive on Andoria. However, the Emperor has made no public appearances in nearly two months, and much of the general public has already accepted Hoshi II as their new Empress.
One thing is for certain, if centralized leadership is not re-established soon, the Empire will fall into chaos. Some say it already has.

Major Conflict Breaks Out in Sol Sector
MCKINLEY STATION, SOL SECTOR (GNN) -- Empress Hoshi Sato II ordered the arrest of Fleet Admiral Sheffield shortly after the Fleet Admiral's declaration of martial law. Under the Empress' orders, imperial ground forces raided and secured all Earth based Starfleet facilities, including McKinley Station and ISF HQ in Beijing. Fleet Admiral Sheffield was able to escape arrest, and commandeered a fleet of starships, which he used in an attempt to lay siege on Earth.
Sheffield's fleet was defeated by a defense fleet led by ISF Vice Admiral Carla Tejada, who has remained loyal to the Empress. Three of Sheffield's renegade vessels were able to jump to warp and escape the battle before they could be destroyed. Sheffield himself is believed to have been on board one of these escaped starships. Vice Admiral Tejada has been placed in command of the surviving fleet in Sol that has remained loyal to Empress Sato. To avoid confusion with the now renegade Imperial Starfleet, Tejada's fleet has been temporarily renamed the Sol Defense Fleet.
Civilian casualties were minimal, and for now the fighting has subsided. However, Tejada remarked that this battle may very well have been the first battle of a Terran civil war, the likes of which has not been seen in four decades. Vice Admiral Tejada declined to speculate on the percentage split in loyalty between Empress Sato and Fleet Admiral Sheffield within the Imperial Starfleet. However, press sources have indicated that most Admirals outside of the Sol sector have chosen to side with their Fleet Admiral. More as this story develops.

Submit to Martial Law
Greetings, imperial citizens. I am Regent T'Pau. Senator Sato's attempt to usurp the throne is unlawful. Overseer Paleb's attempt to manipulate the Emperor's weakened state is illogical. As Regent of the first and oldest colony of the Terran Empire, I suggest that all imperial colonies submit to Starfleet's declaration of martial law peacefully and without incident. Live long and prosper.

Effective Immediately: Martial Law
Attention, citizens of the Terran Empire. I am Fleet Admiral Sheffield, Commander in Chief of the Imperial Starfleet. Senator Sato's unlawful claim to the Terran throne has put the security of the Empire at great risk. Starfleet Intelligence has determined that the true Emperor is currently on Andoria, but as he is reportedly quite ill, and the Andorian Overseer has suspiciously taken it upon himself to speak on the Emperor's behalf, it has become urgent to establish a more effective system of imperial law enforcement. Effective immediately, Starfleet declares the Terran Empire in a state of martial law. Until further notice, you are all under military rule. Live your life as you normally would, as law abiding citizens, and there will be nothing to fear. Long live the Empire.

Hoshi Sato II Declares Herself Empress
KYOTO, EARTH (GNN) -- Senator Hoshi Sato II, younger sister of Emperor Tadashi Sato, made a sudden announcement today that she would be assuming the throne as Empress. In the past several days, the streets of Kyoto have been filled with protesters demanding to know what happened to their Emperor. Since Emperor Sato's disappearance, protesters have been chanting, "Strike Andoria now!" The general public of Earth has been highly skeptical of Aenar Overseer Paleb's explanation of Emperor Sato's disappearance. Senator Sato's decision to address the people of Earth from the top of the Kyoto palace walls was met with supportive cheers from the amassed crowd.
The self-declared Empress Sato announced that her brother was either dead or being manipulated by the Aenar, and as such, was no longer fit to rule the Terran Empire. The crowd in Kyoto roared their approval of adopting the younger Sato as their new Empress. The speech was broadcasted internationally, and there has been no significant voice of opposition from the general public. The Colonial Regents of the Empire's colony worlds have yet to issue statements.

Explosion over Orion
JHAVREL CITY, ORION (GNN) -- On Thu Nov 26 at 23:17 standard time, a transport freighter exploded in skies over Jhavrel City on Orion. Several minor casualties were reported from the shopping district as bit of fiery debris fell to the ground.
The reason for the explosion is still under investigation but the cost of damages to the shopping district, and including the price of the freighter itself, is estimated to be over one million Credits. The ship, name unreleased thus far, is said to have logged a flight plan to Earth. Orion authorities have not released any other information as of this time.

Emperor Sato Safe On Andoria
A tall, white-skinned Aenar with short white hair appears on the screen. His antennae point towards the camera as he begins his announcement. His eyes, which have no pupils, are pointed in the general direction of the camera, though slighty off center and downward instead of straight at the lens. His voice is soft and gentle.
"Good evening, citizens of the Terran Empire. My name is Paleb, Overseer of Andoria. Several days ago, His Majesty Emperor Sato came to Andoria for personal reasons. Unfortunately, shortly after His Majesty's arrival, Emperor Sato caught ill with a mild strain of flu. While the symptoms are mild, His Majesty will need some time to rest before travelling back to Earth. Have no fear, loyal citizens. His Majesty is being cared for by Andoria's top physicians.
"In the meantime, imperial matters must continue to be handled. I am meeting with the Emperor each morning, and His Majesty has appointed me as his spokesperson. The first order of business is to attempt to ease the current military tension between the Terran Empire and the Ferengi Alliance. I will be meeting with a representative of the Ferengi Alliance soon to attempt to negotiate peace with their government. I will be making further announcements on behalf of Emperor Sato when His Majesty wishes me to do so."

Emperor Sato Vanishes From Public Eye
KYOTO, EARTH (GNN) -- Two days ago, Emperor Sato traveled to Andoria on an unannounced visit. Even the royal family and the Emperor's closest advisers claim to be unaware of the reasons behind His Majesty's sudden departure. An anonymous government source reports that no one on Earth has heard from Emperor Sato since His Majesty left for Andoria. When Aenar Overseer Paleb was approached by the press, his only reply was that the Emperor safely arrived on Andoria, and that His Majesty insists on speaking with no one. So far, Paleb has declined to comment further. More as this story develops.

Keeler Aerospace Offering New Rentals
COLONY TWO, MARS (GNN) -- Keeler Aerospace announced in a press conference this morning that their first fleet of Voyager-class ships are ready to go into service. An upgrade over the older Hopper-class ships that have been the workhorse of their fleet since the early 2100s, the Voyager-class boasts slight increases in speed over the Hopper refit, as well as stronger offensive and defensive capabilities.
A spokesperson for the marketting department of Keeler Aerospace has commented that the Hopper-class ships will be phased out over the next several years as more of the Voyager-class vessels enter service. For now, though, KA plans to continue offering the old-but-sturdy Hopper-class ships alongside the Voyagers as part of their rental service.

Inauguration of Overseer Paleb
Earlier today, Emperor Sato announced that Th'Elerin Paleb would be appointed the next Overseer of the Terran Colony of Andoria. Paleb is the third Aenar to be appointed Overseer since the Andorian capital was moved to the Aenar city of Talandria. An inauguration ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 24th. It will take place on Andoria, in the audience chamber of the Overseer's command facility in the city of Talandria. The ceremony will begin at 14:00 Imperial Standard Time (OOC: 5:00PM EST, 2:00PM PST). All imperial citizens are welcome to attend.
